Ledes billing

 

The E-Billing option enables you to produce bills for clients/matters in the Ledes text file format using Create Bills or Word Processor Billing.  After producing one or more bills, attach the text files to an e-mail message and send it to your Ledes bill processor (TYMETRIX).  The bills are also produced using your word processor or in the Create Bills program.  You may want to print and keep a hardcopy of your Ledes bills for your own records.

 

 

Creating Ledes bills in the Create Bills program:

  1. If this is the first time you are using the Create Bills program to create Ledes bills, follow the steps in Configuring Ledes billing.  Then return to this screen.

  2. Generate the bills using Create Bills.

  3. The text file bill to be sent to the Ledes bill processor will be produced automatically.  The bill will also be displayed in the normal manner so that you can print a hardcopy for your records if required.

  4. Edit the text files to add the task codes and activity codes for time entries and the disbursement codes for disbursement entries.

 

Creating Ledes bills using Word Processor Billing:

  1. If this is the first time you are using the Word Processor Billing feature to create Ledes bills, follow the steps in Configuring Ledes billing.  Then return to this screen.

  2. Select Create Bills or Create Pre-bills under the Word Processor heading on the Billing menu.  The Pre-bills option does not increment your bill number series and does not enable you to create multiple bills at once.  Do not use the Pre-bills option if you want to use the Enter/Modify Bills Select All Pre-billed Clients feature.

  3. Under the E-Billing option, select Yes.

  4. Create the bills.

  5. The billing program will produce the bills and display them in your word processor, and will also create the Ledes text files.

  6. Edit the text files to add the task codes and activity codes for time entries and the disbursement codes for disbursement entries.

 

Attaching text files to an e-mail message to send to your Ledes bill processor:

  1. Open your e-mail program, create a new message, and select the option to attach a file to the message.  The steps to create a new message and attach a file will vary depending on your e-mail program.

  2. When you are prompted to select the file to attach to the message, go to the drive and directory in which the program is installed.  If the program is installed on a network, the drive and directory may be on your server.

  3. Open the Bills folder in the directory in which the program is installed.  Under the Bills folder, open the Ledes folder.

  4. The text files containing the Ledes bills will be displayed.  Bills are named with the client number.  Attach the files to send, and send the e-mail.
